About This Workshop
The focus in this class will be on the technique of cutting, polishing and laminating glass to create incredibly colorful glass prisms. Students will start with cutting blocks of glass using a diamond saw and grinding them on various silicon carbide grits or diamond wheels. The objective will be to bring the glass to a perfect polish using pumice and cerium oxide. During the class, Pavel will discuss how to extend the longevity of the wheels and grits which will used during the process of polishing glass as well as how to keep your other machines working in perfect order. Students will have access to the diamond saw, flat grinders, lathes, wet belt sander, and sand blasting. Several demonstrations will be given on methods of methods of color lamination using Hxtal epoxy. Once the epoxy is mixed with colored pigments, the laminations will be a source of color in the final piece. Pavel will show how to make lenses using spherical wheels on a glass lathe machine. By the end of the week, students will be introduced to the world of sandblasting glass as well as learning about glass design and aesthetic. Before the workshop Pavel suggests students visit his one of his sites, such as Facebook, Instagram or Tik Tok. What he does with glass is amazing.
