About This Workshop
Learn how to make your guitars visually unique with ornamentation methods that combine techniques from inlay and marquetry. In this class Michael will demonstrate making headstock overlays, rosette and endgraft motifs beyond traditional designs. Students will design and create their own overlays and inlays in class. Michael will also cover making custom bindings and purflings and how to install these on acoustic guitars, including on a Florentine cutaway with full miters. The class will learn how to inlay on curved surfaces and on difficult to work with woods. Emphasis will be on hand methods combined with common power tools and how to use specialized jigs and fixtures common in the guitar world. The use of and application of CNC methods will also be discussed. Although these methods are shown for guitars they can be used in any type of woodworking.
